DOES IT MATTER?
The rain came up sudden after dinner.
It had nothing to do with us, still
we turned to the window and stilled our hands,
watching the distance come over us loud and opaque.
After a time we walked to the back room
to stand under the place where it one time leaked
to see if it would leak again, but it didn’t.
The sirens, throbbing red, throbbing blue,
rushed by to where disaster was.
We went back to washing dishes.
